The number of samples is calculated from your answers and shown at £55 each before you pay. A mains-fed café is usually two; an office with a loft tank and two heaters is usually five. If the assessor takes fewer on the day, the difference is refunded automatically. If you cannot count your taps, say so — we price it from the size of the building instead, and it never lands below the Standard band. Cooling towers, spa pools and evaporative condensers are specialist work and priced by callback. Jobs starting outside Monday to Friday, 7am to 2pm carry a 50% uplift. All prices exclude VAT; the inclusive total is shown before you pay.
The assistant asks the five questions, works out the samples, shows you both lines and the total from the live price list, and takes payment. "Don't know" is always allowed.
"I don't know" is an honest answer to any count. If you can count them, you may pay less. If you cannot, we price from the building.
Shop, café, office, warehouse, gym, hotel, HMO, care home, school. Hotels, HMOs and care homes count as places where people sleep.
Bathrooms, kitchens, cleaners' cupboards, outside taps — all of them together. A rough number is fine. Up to six is the small band.
Boilers, cylinders, calorifiers, under-sink heaters — anything that makes hot water. One is the small band.
Loft, roof, plant room. None if it is all mains — that is the small band. One or more moves it up, because stored water is where Legionella grows.

A walk-round tells you where Legionella could grow. A sample tells you whether it already has. That is why every RiskSorted legionella assessment includes laboratory samples from your sentinel outlets — the tap nearest your water heater and the one furthest from it — plus any storage tank, and more where the building is bigger or people sleep there.
Each sample is tested for four things: Legionella itself; TVC (total viable count — how much bacteria is living in the water at 22°C and 37°C, the general health of the system); coliforms and E. coli (bacteria that should never be in drinking water and mean something has got in that should not have).
Without the lab results the report is an opinion. With them it is evidence — for your insurer, an inspector, or a court. Results come back with the report, into your account. Legionella is grown in a lab, not tested with a dipstick, so allow 10 to 14 days.
Automatic — you do not have to ask. The 14 days run from the day the assessor attends, not the day you book. That is a promise, not small print.
