A free health and safety check is a walk round your premises with David Smith or one of our accredited specialists. We look at what the fire officer, the local authority and your insurer expect to see and tell you in writing what is in date, what is missing and what to fix first. You keep the findings whether you use RiskSorted or not.

What we look at

Most small premises are partly covered and don't know which part. The check puts it on one page.

  • Fire risk assessment. Is there one, is it in date, and have the actions been closed off?
  • Electrical. The installation certificate or EICR, and the PAT records for what gets plugged in.
  • Fire systems. Alarm servicing, emergency lighting tests and extinguisher servicing, with the logbook to prove it.
  • Water. The Legionella risk assessment and whether the control checks are being done.
  • Health and safety. The policy, the risk assessments and whether they match what actually happens on site.
  • Renewal dates. When each item next falls due, so nothing lapses quietly.

What you get

The findings in writing within two working days. A plain list of what is fine, what is missing and what the fire officer or your insurer would ask for first. If you want a price for any of it you get a fixed one before anything is booked. Use it to go ahead with us or to hold your current supplier to at renewal.

Is the health and safety check really free?
Yes. There is no charge for the visit or the written findings and no obligation to use RiskSorted afterwards. We do it because it is the fastest way for both of us to see what the premises actually needs.
How long does the check take?
Usually 30 to 45 minutes for a single site such as a nursery, gym, pub, café or small office. Larger or shared buildings take longer. We fit around your opening hours.
What does the check cover?
Whether your fire risk assessment is in date and its actions closed, your electrical installation certificate and PAT records, emergency lighting and fire alarm servicing, extinguishers, the Legionella risk assessment for your water systems, and your health and safety policy and risk assessments. We note what is missing, what is out of date and what the fire officer or your insurer would ask for first.
Do I need to prepare anything?
Have whatever certificates and reports you can find to hand. If you cannot find them that is useful information in itself. Nothing else is needed.
What happens after the check?
You get the findings in writing within two working days. If you want a price for any of the work you get a fixed price before anything is booked. You can use it to go ahead with us or to hold your current supplier to at renewal.
